Diagnostic Reviews and School Turnaround
Focus on success with a comprehensive diagnostic review to identify obstacles and advance achievement.
Identify root causes, create your vision, and achieve measurable results
Cognia’s Diagnostic Review is an intensive and comprehensive review of a school or district’s leadership, learning, and resource capacity. The process identifies root causes for underperformance, guides improvement actions, and builds leadership capacity to champion meaningful change and effective continuous improvement.
Diagnostic Reviews benefit all schools—high and medium performers and those in school turnaround identified for targeted or comprehensive support.
When you partner with us, a team of experts and peers collaborate with you to identify areas of improvement and move students and schools out of underperformance. We guide and support the implementation of your plan. Cognia Performance Standards—which define the characteristics of high quality schools—provide a constructive framework for identifying root causes and determining steps for improvement. Let us help you cultivate a continuous improvement mindset.
Don’t take it from us—hear from schools that made a difference
Idaho’s Moscow School District (MSD) had a reputation as a high-performing school, yet during their continuous improvement partnership with Cognia, MSD increased the percentage of advanced students from 39% to 46% over a five-year period
In Memphis-Shelby County Schools in (TN), a pilot program elevated the participating schools from the bottom five percent of performers in the state and exited school improvement status.
Turnaround: an intensive solution
We engage two—not just one—Cognia teams to pinpoint the underlying issues and provide intensive on-site support to guide improvement. The diagnostic review team evaluates the school’s overall culture and climate using Cognia tools, simultaneously the turnaround team builds trust and observes teaching and learning in the classrooms. Then, the turnaround team works shoulder-to-shoulder alongside staff to develop and implement plans that address areas of underperformance as identified in the diagnostic review.
